英米単語の違い6８「校長」「公的年金」

アメリカ英語とイギリス英語では単語が異なるものがあることは知っていますね。

アパートのアメリカ英語はapartmentでイギリス英語ではflat

１階のアメリカ英語はfirst floordでイギリス英語ではground floor

これ以外にも沢山あるので、この英米単語の違いシリーズで覚えていきましょう。

例文はイギリス英語です。

「校長」

アメリカ英語  principal

イギリス英語  headteacher/headmaster

*アメリカでは教頭先生をhead teacherとも言う。

例

 I'm very happy to be the headteacher.

（私は校長になれたことがとても嬉しい）

I lean back in the chair every time someone calls me the headteacher.

（校長と呼ばれるたびに椅子にふんぞり返ってしまう）

While sitting in a luxurious chair by the window, yesterday, I hit hard the back of my head whenever I had a visitor.

（昨日、壁際の高級椅子に座っている間、来客があるたびに後頭部を強打）

I was so dizzy and  couldn't speak properly.

（意識もうろうでちゃんと話すことができなかった）

Today, I'm wearing a helmet. Because of the helmet, the crash sound gets louder, but

例

In order to receive my state pension, I had to handwrite some documents.

"I want to get my money's worth!"  My strong feelings were reflected in the pressure of my pen.
